Our work

Cooperation programs and projects

As in other regions of the world, our organization is moving towards a cooperation model based on the implementation of integrated solutions. This means that we work through regional execution and by pooling resources and capacities across projects and countries to solve major global development challenges.
The Central American governments and the German government have established, together, the priorities of cooperation, based on the main needs and potential of the region. Cooperation is also inspired by a global agenda to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and other international commitments.

This cooperation is mainly carried out on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and with the support of other commissioning parties, such as the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) and the European Union (EU).

Through a wide portfolio of programs and projects, in different modalities of cooperation, we accompany Central America in:

  • Promoting biodiversity conservation and supporting the fight against climate change.
  • Improving people’s living conditions in harmony with the environment.
  • Advising governments on how to achieve the change towards the use of environmentally friendly energies.
  • Contributing to the construction of more resilient, safe and green rural and urban environments.
  • Advising Central American governments in the achievement of efficient and transparent public management.
  • Promoting public-private partnerships to strengthen the region’s development goals.
